Welcome to Mrs. Newby's Classroom
Dear Families, August 2018
Welcome to Taft Pre-K! I look forward to meeting all of you and having a great year with you and your child.
I have taught for 37 years, with 35 of those years being in Kindergarten and Pre-K and 35 of those years being at Taft. I guess you could say that I love teaching young children and being a Taft Tiger! I am married with three children: one who is a wife, mother of four, and Pre-K teacher; one who is a wife, mother of two; and a son who works for Koch Industries.
Lisa Hugaboom is our Pre-K Teacher’s Aide. Mrs. Hugaboom has been a Pre-K Aide for 15 years at Taft. She loves young children and being a Taft Tiger, too! She is married with two children: a son who travels with Disney on Ice as a vendor and a daughter who works at Enid High School.
We stay busy in Pre-K! I will send a monthly newsletter with your child to help keep you updated. Our curriculum in Reading focuses on the letters and their sounds. We learn songs, poems, zoo animals, and read lots of books with each new letter. There will be a Letter Day Activity with most letters and I strongly encourage you to help your child participate. I will send home Take-Home reading books that you and your child can read.
Our Math focuses on geometry, sorting, patterns, measuring, counting, etc… We will use many manipulatives (Math tools) and a variety of activities to learn Math.
Please be sure to check your child’s backpack everyday. This is my major communication link with you and I will do my best to keep you informed of what is going on at Taft Pre-K.
Again, I look forward to having your little one in my class and I hope that we can work together to make this a very special year in your child’s life.
